Scope and Contents
This collection contains materials put together by Smith’s relatives for a program honoring past registrars at Michigan State University. The materials include copies of newspaper articles, correspondence and photographs. With the exception of some of the photographs, the materials are copies made in 2005 from the originals.

Biographical Note
Kermit H. Smith had a 45-year career at Michigan State University. He served as assistant registrar (1939-1956), registrar (1956-1961) and assistant to the provost (1962-1980). A native of Dimondale, Michigan, Smith graduated from Dimondale High School in 1931. He married one of his classmates, Ruth M. Pennington, on November 2, 1935. He attended Michigan State College (now Michigan State University) where he earned a bachelor’s degree. He had two daughters, Nancy and Mary. Smith died in 2000.
