The Jualynne Dodson papers include materials documenting her career including curricula vitae, articles and papers written by Dodson, files related to projects and collaboration, syllabi for classes taught by Dodson, and photographs including trips to Cuba. Biographical / Historical

Jualynne Dodson received her B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in sociology from the University of California, Berkely. She was the Research Director for Atlanta University School of Social Work. Along with several visiting professor and fellow positions, Dodson was an associate professor at the University of Colorado, Boulder starting in 1992. In 2001, she came to Michigan State University (MSU) as a John A. Hannah Distinguished Visiting Professor and then was invited to stay. At the University of Colorado, Dodson founded the African Atlantic Research Team, a mentoring program that guided students of color towards a Ph.D., and brought it to MSU.

Dodson has studied women within the African Methodist Episcopal Church, as well as African descendants in Cuba and the Americans and their religious and social traditions.

Dodson retired from MSU in 2022 and was inducted into the The HistoryMakers at the Library of Congress in 2023.
