Biographical / Historical
Anita Dawn Tobey was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on October 22, 1937 to parents Wells and Bertha Tobey. Growing up in Climax, Kalamazoo, Michigan, Tobey was a member of the Climax Willing Workers 4-H Club throughout the entirety of her youth, submitting over 38 projects ranging from clothing, food preservation, gun safety, and leadership, and earning recognition at both local and state club shows. During her time in 4-H, Tobey participated in Camp Wakeshma, and earned numerous awards and scholarships that provided her with additional award trips. Tobey attended and graduated from Climax-Scotts Community High School, and applied to Michigan State College for a degree in Home Economics, although there is no record of her attending any higher education. Tobey married Verners J. Krumins on December 20, 1958, and together they had three children Steve, Ed, and Mark. Anita and Verners eventually moved to the Lansing area, where Anita lived until her passing on January 3, 2019.
