Content Description

The Barbara J. Lodge Alexander collection contains a scrapbook of the activities of the 1949-1950 Delta Phi Delta - Alpha Mu art honorary society. The scrapbook was most likely created by Barbara J. (Lodge) Rockwood Alexander and her first husband Louis Rockwood. The scrapbook contains photographs of events, newspaper clippings, and lists of members for 1948-1950. The photographs show silkscreening, gallery exhibits, the Artist's and Model's Ball, Art Department faculty and staff, the annual picnic and the Union gallery.

Other materials in the collection include a national chapter handbook for 1950, chapter updates for 1948-1950, newspaper clippings, a report of the 1950 national convention, and a 1951 program for the Artist's and Model's Ball

Biographical / Historical

Barbara Jean Lodge from Wyandotte, Michigan attended Michigan State College (now Michigan State University) from 1947-1951 majoring in fine arts. She and her future husband Louis Rockwood attended Michigan State together. Louis Rockwood, a professor of fine arts at the University of Cincinnati passed away and Barbara married James M. Alexander, Jr., professor of architecture also at the University of Cincinnati.
