Content Description

This scrapbook belonged to Michigan State College student, Emma Hyde. Included are event programs for concerts, plays at MSC and the Gladmer Theater and other activities; dance cards, college receipts, greeting cards, men's and women's athletics, and newspaper clippings. Photographs are also includes throughout.

Biographical / Historical

Emma Mae Hyde, born to parents Sherman B. Hyde and Grace Sherman on August 12, 1907 in Collins, Ohio, graduated from Michigan State College (MSC) in 1928 with a major in Home Economics. Hyde was active in numerous MSC clubs and committees, including Kappa Alpha Theta, Sphinx, the Woman's Athletic Association in which she acted as the baseball manager, Women's Self Government Association, "S" Club, Home Economics Club, and served on both the Co-Ed Prom and Social committees. After graduating, Hyde worked as a Home Economics teacher in Farmington, Michigan. Emma Hyde married Lewis C. Smith on November 20, 1941 in Rolla, Phelps, Missouri. The marriage ended in divorce and was followed by Hyde's second marriage on August 21, 1948 to Lee P. Walbridge. Emma Mae Walbridge died on August 10, 1977 in Royal Oak, Oakland, Michigan.
