Content Description

The Margaret Strobel collection contains a reminiscence written by Margaret Strobel about her time in the Michigan Nigeria Exchange (MINEX) program. The collection also includes slides and three digital images of Strobel and the students in Nigeria and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka campus. Also included is list of the images with descriptions by Strobel. There is also an image of the student group at JFK airport en route to Nigeria from a publication.

Biographical / Historical

Margaret "Peg" Strobel attended Michigan State University (MSU) from 1964 to 1967 and received her BA in history. During the summer of 1965 while at MSU Strobel participated in the Michigan Nigeria Exchange (MINEX) program. She also spent a year at Delhi University. She went on to receive her PhD from UCLA with a Fulbright scholarship.

In 1979, Strobel became a faculty member and the first director of the new Women's Studies Program at the University of Illinois, Chicago. She held that position until 1990. She retired from the University of Illinois in 2006.
