Biographical / Historical

Gerald D. Yeomans was born in Ionia County, Michigan on December 24, 1911. He graduated from Ionia High School in 1929, and attended Michigan State College during the 1929-1930 academic year. Leaving MSC, Gerald attended Ferris Institute, in Big Rapids, Michigan in 1930 for business courses. Gerald returned to MSC from 1932-1933, where he participated in the Agricultural Engineering (Farm Mechanics – Truck and Tractor) short course. On March 7, 1935, Gerald married Alberta Mary Johnson in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and together they had three children, Geraldine, Frances, and James. Gerald invested and managed real estate throughout Ionia County, and jointly owned the Yeomans Farm, established in 1835, with his brother Edwin R. Yeomans. The Yeomans Farm raised crops and was an active dairy farm, called Yeomans Dairy, from 1936 until 1958. Gerald lived on the Yeomans Farm until his passing on March 29, 2006.
