Historical Note

A curriculum in hotel administration started in 1928 with the assistance of the Michigan Hotel Association which helped develop course outlines. In 1944, the name was changed to the Hotel Administration Program and was administered by the School of Business and Public Service. In 1950, the program became the Division of Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management. In 1987, construction started on a new laboratory facility in the Kellogg Center and was completed in 1989. In 1995, the name changed to the School of Hospitality Business.
