Historical Note

When Michigan State College (now University) was reorganized in 1944, the Basic College was created and the two divisions of Liberal Arts and Applied Science were combined into the College of Science and Arts.

The college had six divisions within it: biological science, education, fine arts, language and literature, physical science, and social science. Each division had its own departments. In 1964, the college was phased out when the colleges were reorganized and new ones formed.
