Scope and Contents
Photograph of two women sitting at desks with their backs to the camera. A Japanese American man is seated on the other side of each desk, while a group of Japanese American men wait in the background.
The text on the back of the photograph reads "Japanese-Hawaiians volunteer for U.S. Army Service. Waipahu, T.H., -- "I want [to] help Uncle Sam; that's all" were the words of Kenichi Nishimura (seated left), 37, father of five children, as he signed his application, along with 100 other Hawaiian Japanese, for voluntary induction into the United States Army. Those were likewise the sentiments of Thomas Aoki (seated right), 40, father of six. They are shown as part of the group to offer their services at their selective service board near Honolulu."
