Nisei resigns city job under threat, August 27, 1945

 Item — Folder: 1

Scope and Contents

Photograph of a Japanese American man dressed in a jacket and pants and holding a hat and small notebook, with a package under one arm. He watches as two other men, partially visible on the right side of the photo, read from a stack of papers. One holds a pen and notepad.

The text on the back of the photograph reads "San Francisco, Calif - Takeo Miyama, 37, Japanese-American machinist who quit his job as ignition expert at San Francisco Calif., Municipal Railway bus repair shop when 60 A.F.L. Automotive Machinists Union members threatened to walk out if he returned. City officials and utilities officials backed Miyama by asking workers to back down, as War Relocation Authority heads look into the case, expected to be one of many such cases."
