78 RPM vinyl record "Sleepy Time Gal", 1947
Scope and Contents
Record is split/broken. Significance is explained by handwritten note on wrapper which reads as follows: "In a small town in northern Michigan where my father lived as a young man, he had an Italian friend who worked in a restaurant. I will call his friend Phil . . . He could play any song you named on the piano . . . but the song everyone waited for was the one he wrote . . . he had written the song for his girl . . . the girl would rest her head on Phil's shoulder while he played, and he got the idea for the song from the pretty way she looked when she got sleepy."
