Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The Gmelch collection is a series within the Victor Weybright Archives of Gypsy Studies. It is named after Sharon Bohn Gmelch and George Gmelch, who are anthropologists at the University of San Francisco. The collection consists of scholarly articles written about gypsies and travellers which were published between the 1960s-1980s. The Gmelchs amassed this collection of materials while conducting their own research on the Irish Traveller population in the 1970s, which resulted in several books written by the couple. Some scholarly articles written by the Gmelchs are included in the collection.
