Scope and Contents
The John J. Castillo papers includes materials from projects that Castillo and his firm worked on and developed. This includes work with the Human Genome Project, Communities of Color and Genetics Policy Project, the Latino Genetics Community Consultation Network and other diversity projects. Of particular note in the collection are two reports "Buildng a Balanced Library Collection", February 1972 which includes the script of Castillo's remarks, and a report by Melvin Villarreal, PhD titled "Chicano Secondary School Student in the Lansing School District, A Descriptive Study, 1973-1974." Included in this collection is a file of correspondence to and from José P. Gamez, a collaborator on several Castillo and Associates projects. Gamez was an employee of Michigan State University and the State of Michigan and was a business owner in the Lansing community. His folders include correspondence from those activities as well as several from MSU President Clifton Wharton (1970-1978).
