The Allen Benton Morse papers and botanical samples collection contains botanical specimens he collected and his notes from 1859-1876. Volume 2 contains flowers collected while Morse served in the 21st Michigan Infantry in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area in Spring 1864.

Biographical / Historical
Allen B. Morse(b. 1839, d. 1921) was a lawyer from Ionia, Michigan, a former Michigan state senator and mayor of Ionia, a Michigan Supreme Court justice, and U.S. Consul to Scotland, 1893-1895.
