Scope and Contents
The collection consists of notes, correspondences, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, drafts and manuscripts of Wyn C. Wade’s book, The Fiery Cross. Also included are a cassette tape, pocket knife, copper money clip and transcripts of interviews with Stetson Kennedy.

Biographical / Historical
While researching for his book, The Fiery Cross, Wyn C. Wade spent much of his time in Special Collections at the MSU Library. To show his gratitude, he later donated a collection of his research materials (Box 2) to Special Collections. After Wade’s death, his wife donated the rest of the collection.
The Fiery Cross traces the Ku Klux Klan from its beginning during the Reconstruction era to the 1990s. Wade details the history of the group, particularly the resurgence of the KKK after the release of D.W. Griffith’s film The Birth of a Nation and the group’s involvement in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Finally, Wade thoroughly analyzes not only the KKK’s history, but also its dark future.
