Biographical / Historical
The first Feminist Federal Credit Union was established on August 26, 1973 in Detroit, Michigan. Built around the concept of women pooling their resources together, it allowed those who were saving money to lend money to their sisters. Soon after the Detroit office opened, numerous other credit unions were started in various cities nationwide including in Lansing, Michigan and Ann Arbor, Michigan. In 1982, the Feminist Federal Credit Union formed a coalition with the University of Michigan Credit Union in order to offer more effective services, loans, and dividends to their members.
