Biographical / Historical

The Farm, also known as Crossroads Community, was founded in 1974 by Bonnie Ora Sherk and Jack Wickert. The seven acres around what is now San Francisco’s Cesar Chavez Street Freeway Interchange contained farmland, a community center, an outdoor school, and a theater. The Farm was intended to connect people to their ecological environment and to serve as a community for artists, writers and radical theater performers, as well as neighborhood residents. During the 1980s it became a popular venue for punk rock bands.
