Scope and Contents

Starting in approximately 1990 until approximately 2001, under the direction of Prof. Anita Skeen, freshman and sophomore students prepared a time capsule every year to document their world for future generations in a closed deposit at MSU Special Collections for 100 years.

Time capsules from each year are closed for 100 years, and will be opened each year starting in 2090, with the final capsule opened in 2101.

Residential Option in Arts and Letters (ROIAL) was a humanities-based living and learning community for freshman and sophomore students at Michigan State University. ROIAL evolved into the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities in 2005.

Various boxes rehoused for storage considerations and a lighter was removed and replaced by a photograph of the object in 2016 for preservation concerns, otherwise, housed and arranged by ROIAL students.
