Predominant within the collection are records by J. Jack Murray, of the Field Crops Laboratory with the U. S. Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, Maryland often pertaining to the development and release of the Zoysia Japonica Meyer or Beltsville-16-1 variety of grass.

Biographical / Historical

The National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) is a cooperative effort between the non-profit National Turfgrass Evaluation Program, Inc., and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). NTEP is headquartered at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC) in Beltsville, Maryland USA. The National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) is one of the most widely-known turfgrass research programs in the world collecting and summarizing information such as turfgrass quality, color, density, resistance to diseases and insects, tolerance to heat, cold, drought and traffic.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The collection was donated to MSU Libraries' Turfgrass Information Center in 2006 by the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) in Beltsville and was transferred to Special Collections soon after.

Processing Information

The collection was originally processed by the MSU Turfgrass Information Center prior to its transfer to Special Collections. The collection was rehoused and inventory imported thanks to the MSU Libraries' Copy Center student assistants under the supervision of Lydia Tang in 2017.
