Scope and Contents

The materials were collected as part of the activist work Dr. Marinez did with Mujeres Unidas de Michigan organization. It includes correspondence and information gathered for interests in daycare services for Latino children, the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame program at which one of the first Latinas was inducted and a folder of juvenile book titles.

Biographical / Historical

Diana I. Marinez was a co-founder of the women's organization Mujeres Unidas de Michigan established in 1975. She was also active with the Michigan Women’s Historical Center. Marinez earned her PhD in Biochemistry at Indiana University in 1971 and joined the MSU faculty in 1971. She was appointed Chair of the Natural Sciences Department in 1989. She became Dean at the College of Science and Technology Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and received Dean Emeritus status in 2011.
