Scope and Contents

This collection contains a printed guide to the former concentration camp of Mauthausen; original photographs of the camp and prisoners taken by Orr; a letter from Orr to Raymond S. Buch, historian of the N. J. chapter of the 11th Armored Division Association; a memoir-essay by Orr and his family visiting the camp in 1965; and testimonies by Belgian doctor Dr. William ("Bill") Hoorick, prisoner Dr. jur. Ludwig Soswinski, and Camp Commander Franz Ziereis.

Biographical / Historical

The Mauthausen concentration camp was located in Austria and is the location where roughly 200,000 people died from August 1938 to May 1945. Horace J. Orr, Jr., was Assistant Chaplain to the 11th Armored Division and was present at the liberation of the Mauthausen Concentration Camp on May 7, 1945.
