Biographical / Historical
Barbara Dawson Smith was born in Detroit, Michigan and earned a B. A. in Journalism from Michigan State University. She sold her first romance novel two weeks after sending it to a publisher and went on to become one of the preeminent writers of romance fiction. She was awarded the 1984 Golden Heart Award for Romance Writers of America for "No Regrets." Since 1989, her books have consistently received a 4+ Exceptional rating from Romantic Times, the leading romance review magazine. Silver Splendor (1989) was nominated for the Best Victorian Romance of 1988-1989. Dreamspinner (1990) won best Historical Romantic Suspense from Romantic Times, was nominated for Romance of the Year by Affaire de Coeur, and for Best Historical from RWA. Fire on the Wind (1992) was a finalist for RWA's Rita Award. A Glimpse of Heaven (1995) won Best Regency Historical from Romantic Times. Never a Lady (1996) was nominated for a National Reader's Choice Award. Once Upon a Scandal (1997) was a USA Today bestseller, and was a finalist for RT's Best Regency Historical and for RWA's Rita's Award. Her Secret Affair is a nominee for Best Regency Historical. Dawson Smith was also nominated for Career Acheivement in Regency Historicals. Her books have been published with Silhouette, Zebra, Avon, and St. Martin's Press.
