The Donald A. Yates papers primarily consist of his author files, drafts of his books, book reviews, and related correspondence. The correspondence is primarily with book collaborators and publishers, and includes publication permissions from authors or literary heirs. Of note are records relating to Borges' visits to Michigan State University, Borges' honorary doctorate, and collaborations with Yates.

Biographical / Historical
Donald A. Yates (1930-2017) was a Professor Emeritus at Michigan State University, where he taught Latin American Literature for more than twenty-five years. He published widely in his field and is the author of some two dozen texts and compilations and was the General Editor of the Macmillan Modern Spanish American Literature Series. He was President of the International Institute of Latin American Literature and hosted the Institute's 16th Congress at Michigan State University. A lifelong affeciando for mystery writing, Yates was a friend to significant Latin American writers, including Rodolfo Walsh and Jorge Luis Borges.
