Biographical / Historical

In 1970, a group of professional Hispanic admission counselors, striving to promote higher education opportunities for Hispanic youth in Michigan, formed the Association of Chicanos for College admissions (ACCA). In 1980 the group changed its name to the College Recruitment Association for Hispanics (CRAH), and expanded to include other individuals who support the goals of the Association. In 1993, CRAH was revitalized and renames as the Advocates for Latino Students Advancement in Michigan Education (A.L.S.A.M.E.). ALSAME sponsors college fairs for Latino students and families, sharing information about colleges and universities and supporting students pursuing higher education.
