World War II propaganda leaflets

 Collection — Box: 1
Identifier: MSS 631

Scope and Contents

The World War II propaganda leaflets consist of primarily 1-page, small leaflets. Some or all leaflets may have been distributed to American troops in Europe via air drops or by other means by German forces and all leaflets are in English (with occasional pronounced vocabulary directed to American or British forces, with rare German spellings of words). Common themes include anti-Semitism and mistrust of Jewish or Eastern Europeans who may have to come America as refugees but now are working in the stock market (featuring archetypal character "Sam Levy") and potentially "stealing" their girlfriends or wives. Other themes include labeling the war as a rich person's war to be fought (and died for) by working class men, that the war is just Americans getting involved in issues that aren't their business, and that the battlefields have become a money-making opportunity for the entertainment industry.
