Scope and Contents

The 2-folder collection consists of facsimiles of correspondence to, from and about Romulo, news print and online articles and obituaries from various newspapers, advertisements for Munguia's print shop, programs for events honoring Munguia and family members, state proclamations, Texas-Mexico history. A second folder includes documents that highlight the Munguia Cisneros Family history of civic outreach and political activism.

Biographical / Historical

Romulo Munguia was a journalist, printer and civic leader from San Antonio Texas. Originally from Mexico he migrated to the US after his work as a labor organizer, educational reformer and revolutionary journalist. He left Mexico to San Antonio with his wife Carolina and worked at the Spanish language newspaper, La Prensa in San Antonio. He was involved in electoral campaigns and civic and cultural organizations and passed away in 1975. Romulo and Carolina were the grandparents to San Antonio Mayor and US HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The collection was donated by Randy Munguia in 2018. Munguia is a descendant of the San Antonio Cisneros and Munguia families.
