Scope and Contents
This collection contains the activist papers of William Minter related to African liberation movements from the 1960s to the early 2000s. Most material are newsletters, flyers, and other publications of the organizations with which Minter worked, include the Madison Area Committee on Southern Africa, the Mozambique Support Network, and the Africa Policy Information Center.

Biographical / Historical
William (Bill) Minter has been an activist, researcher and writer since the 1960s, focusing on Africa. He attended the University of Ibadan, in Nigeria, from 1961-62 and taught at the secondary school of the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) in Tanzania and Mozambique, from 1966-68 and 1974-76.
He worked for several organizations focused on Africa and African liberation, including Africa Action, the Africa Policy Information Center, and the Washington Office on Africa in the 1990s. He is the author of No Easy Victories: African Liberation and American Activists over a Half Century, 1950-2000, co-edited by Gail Hovey and Charles Cobb, Jr. He is currently the editor of Africa Focus.
