Scope and Contents
The Sierra Leone railway construction photograph album consists of 26 photographs mounted in an album and 16 laid-in loose photographs. Photographs document the construction of the Sierra Leone railway and members of the company. Marginalia identify a white men as "B. T-Y" and "Messrs. Boyle & Andrews." Locations identified include the Waterloo station, Taja permanent bridge, Tabe station, Mano river, and Malema Ferry (River Moa). Two laid-in photographs depict white and Black men participating in a cricket game in the sands of the River Moa. The other 14 laid-in photographs appear to be village scenes depicting markets, a formal dining setting of seated white men, rural village buildings, an bedroom dresser with displayed photographs and frames, a large gathering of Black people, and possibly a self-portrait of the photographer.
