Scope and Contents
This collection consists of microfilm containing the correspondence of Jefferson and Varina Howell Davis. Topics include Mississippi and national politics; the admission of California as a state; a proposed southern-route transcontinental railroad; and Davis' capture at the end of the Civil War. It also contains speeches, newsclippings about the Davises and their home, and accounts of the Battle of Monterey (1846), requested by Davis.
