Scope and Contents The collection contains diaries (1891-1916), journals (1858-1869), and an account book (1859-1861) of Charles Hutchinson Thompson (1838-1916), a clerk in the State offices in Lansing, Michigan. Born in LeRoy, New York, he visited Michigan in 1845-1847 and returned to Orleans County, New York, where he attended school and held various jobs. Scope and Contents The collection consists largely of personal correspondence of the French and Cady families, related through the marriage of Sarah Jane Cady to Newell Andrew French. The families were originally from New York and Pennsylvania. This collection contains Mabel Henderson Hutchinson's scrapbooks which include an autobiographical sketch from birth to 1943 with many mementos from school, friends, activities and news clippings. Mabel kept extensive journals of each Florida trip she and her husband took, as well as other trips across the west. Also included in the collection are photographs of relatives of the John Henderson family, friends and their families and a sewing book done by Mabel.
