The records of the Berrien County Draft Board include lists of the draft registrants, those with exempt or non-exempt status, and those drafted for service in World War I.
This collection contains Bywater's letters to family members in Grand Rapids, Michigan (1917-1918). The collection also contains his draft notice, a note of welcome from King George V to American soldiers, and documents relating to Bywater's death and burial. Also included is a tintype portrait of Roger McDowell.
The Frederick Bourns papers contain several certificates recording the elections of trustees for the First Presbyterian Society of Vassar, Michigan, of which Bourns was an elder. Also included are eligibility lists for Civil War military service, submitted to Bourns by various townships in Tuscola County, Michigan.
