Scope and Contents This collection relates mainly to Albert D. English, his wife, the former Marion Brown Monteith, their daughter Jean English Wisner, and Albert's sister, Annetta English.Many letters in Albert's personal correspondence, especially those from his sister, Annetta, contain references of local historical interest. Annetta English, in her diaries and essays, recorded a great deal of the history of the Manchester, Michigan area. Albert kept personal notes in this field, and also...

Scope and Contents

This collection includes grants of public lands in the District of Detroit, Michigan Territory, to Samuel W. Dexter of New York (1824-1825). The collection also contains deeds, pertaining to lands in Washtenaw and Shiawassee Counties, Michigan, purchased by Dexter. Also included are tax receipts for land in Shiawassee County belonging to Francis Prevost and Alvin Brown Lodge, Lodge No. 30 (1884), and a certificate of recommendation into the Masonic Order for Luther Boyden of Mississippi.

Scope and Contents

This collection includes Civil War letters written by Peter Randall, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, to his wife, Mary while he was serving in the Union Army on February 26, 1864. Peter enlisted in Company F, 6th Michigan Heavy Artillery. Peter never saw combat so his letters describe daily life in Army camps. Also included is a letter of condolence to Mary from Randall's Sergeant.
