This collection consists of a handwritten monograph and a letter relating to the history of the passenger pigeon in Michigan. Techniques for their capture are described in detail, and observations are made as to their disposal and market value.

This collection contains an article by L. P. Pettitt entitled "Short Story of the Passenger Pigeon" (1953) explaining the methods used in Michigan from 1870-1880 to capture large numbers of these birds. The birds were then shipped to cities in the Midwest. Pettitt also discusses different theories on the cause of the extinction of the passenger pigeon.
