William H. Taft (1857-1930) was an American politician, government official, lawyer, and judge. He served as the president of the United States from 1909 to 1913, and as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 1921 to 1930.

This collection consists of one letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Charles Warren of Three Oaks, Michigan dated January 7, 1913, in which the defeated candidate expresses his unwillingness to attempt to advise either President Taft, or the newly-elected Wilson.

Scope and Contents The bulk of the collection is composed of letters Carpenter received and duplicates of many of those that he sent. Many of them are of an essentially personal nature.
