Jason Elmer Hammond papers
Scope and Contents
Jason Hammond’s papers consist of one scrapbook, which contains a few programs and photographs from Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University). The majority of items are from the Michigan public schools at which he taught. Included are announcements, invitations, photographs, greeting cards, and programs from North Adams High School in Hillsdale, Michigan, where he was principal in 1891, and from schools in Allen and Johnsville, Michigan.

Biographical Note
Jason Elmer Hammond, of Hillsdale, Michigan, earned his B.S. degree from Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University) in 1886, and was granted an honorary M.S. degree in 1900. He was principal of schools in Allen, Michigan (1886-1890), and in North Adams, Michigan (1890-1891), a member of the Hillsdale County Board of School Examiners (1888-1891), County Commissioner of Schools (1891-1893), Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction (1893-1897), State Superintendent of Public Instruction (1897-?), and manager of the Hammond Publishing Company, Ltd. in Lansing, Michigan. He authored "School Law of Michigan," and was an ex-officio member of the State Board of Education and the State Board of Geological Survey. Hammond was Alumni Secretary of the M.A.C. class of 1886.
