Scope and Contents
This collection contains a circular from the Superintendent of Public Instruction in Ann Arbor, Michigan regarding annual reports from school districts (1841), a teaching certificate issued to Owen Churchill by the Inspectors of Schools in Bertrand, Berrien County, Michigan (1860), a Civil War pass issued to Churchill as hospital steward for the 24th Michigan Infantry (1865), and several of Churchill's receipts.

Biographical Note
Owen Churchill was born circa 1840 to Orin Churchill and Emaline Pope. He enlisted in the 24th Michigan Infantry in 1864 and served as a hospital steward until mustering out in 1865. He married Florence E. Adams.
Following the war, he attended and graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School (1866). Census records list him as a medical doctor and druggist. Churchill died on April 18, 1918.
