Historical Note

The Alpha Xi Delta sorority was first called the Ero Alphian Literary Society. It was founded at Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University) on May 15, 1904 by fourteen women. They believed that "in order to be a well rounded man or woman, one must possess, in conjunction with a literary and technical education, a thorough understanding of his fellow beings; he must know how to cooperate with others in developing the noblest altruistic principles; and, best of all, he must form friendships, enduring and true" (1911 Wolverine). Ero Alphian was one of the first three sororities formed at Michigan State. In October of 1934, Ero Alphian became the Beta Theta Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta sorority.
