Scope and Contents

The Gordan and Nancy Milne collection contains materials related to Gordon's military training at MSC and elsewhere as well as materials from his service in World War II. Included are aeronatical and navigation training materials, orders, military newsletters, and photographs of his time in World War II. There are also materials he saved during his service related to Germany and the Nazi party. Also included is a scrapbook created by Nancy with materials from her time at Eastern High School and MSC. Of note are copies of the Easern High School newsletter.

Biographical Note

Gordon Milne (July 14, 1925 - December 17, 2016) was a Michigan State Alumni and WWII veteran from Pittsfield, Massachusetts. After graduating high school in 1943, he immediately enlisted in the Army Air Force (the precursor to the modern U.S. Air Force) and was sent to Michigan State College after basic training to complete the advanced classwork required of military aviators. Upon completion in he was assigned in March 1945 to the 344th Bomb Group, 9th Army Air Force. As a navigator aboard the B-26 Marauder medium bomber, he completed 4 and 3/4 missions over Belgium and Germany, and had been stationed at air bases in England, France and Belgium by the end of the war.

After remaining in Europe for several months after war's end, he returned to Michigan State College and obtained a degree in Civil Engineering on the G.I. Bill. He married Nancy Baxter, whom he had met at Michigan State College during his Air Force training in 1943-44, and the couple settled in the Lansing Area. Gordon worked in the Bridge Design Division of the Michigan Department of Transportation. Gordon died December 2016, and is survived by his wife Nancy.
