Historical Note
From its earliest days, Michigan State University has been involved in the process of developing a health promotion program. In 1984, faculty, staff, and university units were contacted for interest in sponsoring projects in their areas. A total of 142 ideas were received. Development of Healthy U was funded in 1985 by a two-year grant from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation (Phase I). During this period, ideas were merged and/or eliminated to 25. These 25 formed the basis of Healthy U.
In February 1987, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation provided a three-year grant to fund Phase II of the program. This phase was the implementation of the program on campus.
