Scope and Contents
The papers consist of a memory book compiled by R. Ernest Dear for the 50th anniversary of the 1953-1954 Michigan State University cheerleading squad. The book includes photographs of the squad, an account of how the first "Sparty" mascot was made, newspaper clippings with photographs from the Rose Bowl trip (including a few of "Sparty"), biographies of members of the squad, a list of cheers, and photographs of the 1954-1955 cheerleading squad. The cover and back art contain images of memorabilia from the Rose Bowl and Tournament of Roses Parade.

Historical Note
The members of the 1953-1954 Michigan State University cheerleading squad were Ernest Dear, Gene German, Howard Girvin, Jack Landman, R. Dee MacDonald, Bob Marsh, Pete Plumstead, Joe Staser, Coach George Szypula, Robert Urbanek, and Roger Walker. The squad accompanied the MSU football team to Pasedena, California for the 1954 Rose Bowl game. They also claim to have constructed out of paper-mache the first "Sparty" mascot.
