Scope and Contents

Alva True Stevens papers consist of one item, a menu and program from a "Bachelors' Banquet" held at Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University) in November, 1894. Stevens and sixteen other men appear in a photograph on the cover. The banquet, an end-of-the-term celebration, included an elaborate dinner, speeches, recitations, and music. There is also a folder of fourteen photos that had once been part of a scrapbook. Images are of college life, farming and college buildings, including a dorm room with two students surrounded by M.A.C. memorabilia, Class of 1914, M.A.C. "Football Special" train for the M.A.C. vs O.S.U. game, train station at Swan Creek. No people or dates are identified in these photos.

Biographical Note

Alva True Stevens earned his B. S. in agriculture from Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University) in 1893, and returned to earn his M.S. in 1908. While at M.A.C., he was a member of the Eclectic Literary Society (Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity). He later joined the faculty of the Connecticut Agricultural College in Storrs as a professor of gardening.
