Scope and Contents
a. Harris, I. M. The Ten Commandments of Male Spirituality (with questionnaire attached). This article discusses the basis of masculine spiritual beliefs… This study shows that the “ten commandments” of male spirituality play a central role in how men define themselves. (Also see archive files of Ian Harris in CMC.) b. Justad. M. J. A Transvaluation of Phallic Masculinity: Writings With and Through the Male Body. The transvaluation of phallic masculinity is based on a belief that traditional patterns of exaggerating the differences between women and men represent a dangerous obsolescence…Instead, I would like to recommend the strategy of transvaluing masculinity… which can help us place “difference” within a politics of inclusion and encourage men to trust their bodies as a source of liberating insight. c. Lietzau, J. The Male Mandate: How to Survive Relationships, Marriage, Parenting and the Legal System. d. Luke, B. Violent Love: A Study of the Sexual Politics of Hunting. Men hunt today for many reasons, almost all of them are sexual… e. Massey, G. D. Alexander Hamilton and John Laurens: Young Continental Officers and the Construction of Masculinity during the American Revolution. The Hamilton-Laurens intimate friendship illustrates several facets about the Revolutionary era, particularly ideas of fame, virtue, and honor. f. Mayes, E. D. The Heroic Male Revisited. Abstract: The legend of Troy, its siege and sack, has stimulated poetic imaginations and educational hopes for three hundred years. One of its foci, Homer’s Iliad, provides excellent models of male dominance and joie de guerre which should be the aim of the modern educational canon not to celebrate but discredit, yet it remains among the allegedly “Great Books” of western cultural literacy.
