This collection contains a letter from Martha C. Bradley to Nancy Kimball, describing the sinking of her husband's whaling ship and sending family news. Also included is a deed for land in Berrien County, Michigan, sold by Mrs. Bradley in 1866.
His diary describes his early experiences as a teacher, and discusses his personal and social life. A number of entries in the diary are in code form. The book also contains an essay on the history, geography, industry and natural resources of Berrien County, Michigan.
This collection contains a circular from the Superintendent of Public Instruction in Ann Arbor, Michigan regarding annual reports from school districts (1841), a teaching certificate issued to Owen Churchill by the Inspectors of Schools in Bertrand, Berrien County, Michigan (1860), a Civil War pass issued to Churchill as hospital steward for the 24th Michigan Infantry (1865), and several of Churchill's receipts.
