Scope and Contents
Color footage of the Michigan State University campus, followed by black and white footage of Spartan swimmer Donald "Don" Patterson competing in a March 1, 1958 dual meet against the Wisconsin Badgers at Jenison Pool, East Lansing, Michigan. MSU Head Coach - Charles McCaffree, Jr.; Wisconsin Head Coach - John Hickman. Spartans won 62-43. This was the final meet to take place in Jenison Pool, before the opening of the IM West building.
The Spartans set seven dual meet records in this match, and Don Patterson swam the last leg of the 400 yard medley relay (an unofficial time of 48.7 in the 100 yard freestyle) and the lead-off for the 400 yard freestyle relay (49.0, capturing the dual meet, pool, Big Ten and NCAA Championships records and missing the World Record by a tenth of a second).
