Scope and Contents

The scrapbook contains photographs and postcards of Michigan State University campus life including people, athletic events, reunions, campus buildings and scenes, the Wells Hall fire in 1905, class rivalries, and pranks. Also included are photographs from the Semi-Centennial of President Roosevelt’s visit to campus in 1907. There are also booklets and programs from Patriarch and alumni reunions during 1919 and 1959. Other materials include an issue of The M.A.C. Record from 1919, and a poster from the Horticulture Club announcing a lecture on campus. There is also a piece of partly melted metal mounted on card stock labeled as the “remains of Wells Hall” from the 1905 fire that destroyed the building.

Also included are pennants of: Notre Dame, Olivet, Forensic, M.A.C, 1909, Yale, Hillsdale, Colorado, Columbia, Harvard, Alma, Illinois, California, Dartmouth, Stanford, Purdue, Pennsylvania, Syracuse, Navy, Amherst, Armour, and Virginia.

Biography

Winford C. Trout attended Michigan Agricultural College from 1905 to 1909 and received a B.S. in agriculture. While on campus he lived in Wells Hall. Trout designed Ella Sharp Park in Jackson, Michigan and was the park supervisor for twenty years.
