Chinese opera photographs

Scope and Contents The Chinese opera photographs collection contain large matted photographs primarily featuring the Chinese opera performer Mei Lan-Fang and other performers. Chinese opera traditionally depicts historic and fictional characters, battles, and supernatural spirits. Of note are pictures of a southern Chinese troupe performing "Pocahontas," the Ramayana, and "Othello." Donna L. Rinn journal

Scope and Contents

The collection contains a journal that was kept by Michigan State University student Donna L. Rinn during a Council for International Educational Exchange (CIEE) sponsored tour of the People's Republic of China in 1979. Rinn traveled to Tokyo, Peking, Chengtu, Shanghai, Hangchow, Kwangchow, Shumchun, and Hong Kong. The journal contains Rinn's description and comments on China and its people. The itinerary for the tour is also included.

The bulk of this collection consists of scrapbooks. The twenty scrapbooks are filled with newspaper clippings, magazine articles, and pictures covering such diverse topics as World War II, the Middle East, Lansing and East Lansing, Japanese culture and flower gardening. Also included are Ethel Rathke's prose and poetry and her correspondence with publishing companies, friends, and acquaintances.

George A. Dibble papers

Scope and Contents The collection consists of letters from Major George A. Dibble to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Dibble, Lansing, Michigan, and family photographs. Dibble joined the Army Air Corps in 1941, was trained in Texas and New Mexico, (along with Captain Elliot Roosevelt), and served in a variety of European and Asian theaters as a supply flight navigator.
