The material in the Barnes collection encompasses the period 1846 to 1899. Barnes graduated from the University of Michigan in 1850 and settled in Lansing to practice law. This collection includes a copy of the "Haiku Diary 2011" by Robert F. Mainone. It is a self published book consisting of photocopies of Mainone's engagement calendar. The calendar has daily entries of Mainone's weather observations, events, and haiku poems he wrote that day. The volume also contains copies of letters he has received about his poems. The letters mostly deal with people requesting to publish his poems.
