This collection contains two Civil War poems, "The Dying Soldier at Manassas" and "The Veteran's Growl." "The Veteran's Growl" was written by a soldier who was sent to Texas on garrison duty after the war ended. The author describes the miserable conditions in Texas and satirizes War Department policies and Union leaders.
Also included is a brief genealogy of the Lewis family.

This collection consists of a mimeographed copy of a history of Galien, Berrien County, Michigan, compiled by Frank D. Noggle. The history describes early industries, education, railroading, land use and development in the period 1828-1879. It also includes biographical sketches of some early settlers. In addition, Noggle discusses the local Pottawatomi Indians, who reluctantly gave up their land rights in 1833 and were finally expelled from the area in 1838.

Dennis, Stanley Johnston, and Sylvan Wittwer who were members of the Horticulture Department at Michigan State University (MSU). This collection contains six photographs of railroad scenes. Work crews and work camp can be seen in some. The photographs came from the estate of Frank Galen Hess (deceased) of Wilkingsburg, Pennsylvania. The scenes were probably along the tracks of the Pennsylvania Railroad between Altoona and Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Hess' father was a telegrapher and dispatcher for the P.R.R.; he was the donor's uncle.
