Science and Mathematics Teaching Center records

Scope and Contents

The records contain a Traveling Science Teacher Program Report of the Director 1959-1960 and a booklet on metric education.

Photographs in the collection include group photographs from 1957 to 1965 for CHEM Study Institute, Institute for Physical Science and Mathematics, Summer Institute in Biology, and Summer Institute in Mathematics. There is also a photograph of a P. G. Ashmore.

Also included in the collection are annual reports from 1957 through 1970-1971.

Science Fiction Club records

Scope and Contents

This collection contains two issues of Starminion from 1975 and 1976, the first two issues of the magazine. The illustrations and articles came from Michigan State University students "with literary and artistic talent…who don't feel quite ready to tackle the professional magazines yet." The issue of Greasy Kid Stf, contains fiction, articles, editorials and artwork.

Science Fiction Fan Club Newsletters collection

MSU's collection of science fiction fan club newsletters includes material from 45 clubs. One-half were (or are) clubs based in a particular city or region and one-quarter on university campuses. The remaining clubs had membership across the country, often focused on a sub-genre such as science fiction poetry.

Scope and Contents MSU’s collection includes a handful of zines dating back to the 1940s, modest numbers for the 1950s and 1960s, and a large number from the 1970s. This pattern of distribution reflects an increase in the popularity of fan publishing in the 1970s, as well as donations donations from several MSU alums who were avid science fiction fans and active in zine publishing during that period. Scofield family papers

Scope and Contents This collection consists mainly of correspondence and other papers relating to the Stephen Scofield family of Ingham County, Michigan. Much of the correspondence relates to Grace Scofield Bridger (daughter of Stephen) and is mostly personal in content. Of special interest, however, are a letter (January 24, 1858) describing land and farming conditions in Wisconsin, and a letter (May 3, 1888) relating farming news and local market prices of farm produce in Kansas.
